Sigma's Safety Measures Against Super Typhoon Yagi

06/09/2024

According to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Super Typhoon Yagi—the third typhoon this year—is entering the northern waters of the Northeastern Sea. With maximum wind speeds of up to 201 km/h (level 16), Yagi is one of the strongest super typhoons, likely to significantly affect the Northern region, especially the provinces from Quang Ninh to Hai Phong.

The eye of the storm is expected to make landfall between Quang Ninh and Hai Phong with an intensity of level 10-12, accompanied by heavy rain and strong gusts. In order to respond promptly and ensure the absolute safety of employees, as well as materials and equipment at the project sites, Sigma Company has implemented a series of emergency storm prevention measures.

1. Closely monitor the storm's developments
Sigma Engineering JSC is closely coordinating with contractors, authorities, and the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to continuously update the developments of Super Typhoon Yagi. This enables Sigma to provide quick and accurate instructions during the response process.

2. Ensure electrical safety at the construction site

  • All power lines are elevated to avoid contact with rainwater.
  • Employees are required to use full protective equipment and strictly comply with electrical safety regulations when working in wet conditions.
  • The construction power supply will be cut off at the end of each day’s work or when signs of the storm appear.

3. Protect materials and equipment

  • Materials and equipment at the construction site will be padded, carefully covered, and securely anchored to prevent damage from strong winds and heavy rain.
  • Sigma has directed that materials should not be stored in dangerous areas such as balconies, roofs, or near edges to ensure safety.

4. Check drainage and lightning protection systems

  • Temporary drainage systems at construction sites will be carefully inspected to prevent flooding from prolonged heavy rain.
  • Temporary lightning protection systems will also be maintained to ensure stable operation in harsh weather conditions.

5. Safety measures at the office

  • Before the end of the workday, all electrical equipment at the company office and construction sites will be turned off and unplugged to prevent short circuits.
  • Files and documents will be stored in locked cabinets to avoid storm-related damage.
  • Windows and doors will be checked and closed to prevent water from entering.

6. Activate flood prevention and emergency response teams
Sigma has established flood prevention and emergency response teams at construction sites to monitor and respond swiftly when the storm makes landfall. The teams also ensure that support vehicles and rescue tools are ready for use in emergencies.

7. Continuous situation reporting
Sigma’s projects will report the situation before, during, and after the storm to provide accurate and timely information to the company. This helps in devising quick and effective response measures.

8. Storm shift assignment
To ensure continuous monitoring, Sigma has assigned storm duty shifts to staff, ensuring that someone is always in charge of monitoring throughout the storm.

Sigma’s Safety Commitment
With the motto "Safety First," Sigma is taking every measure to ensure the safety of employees, partners, and construction projects. A timely and accurate response to storms helps minimize risks and damage, while ensuring the progress of construction projects.

Sigma Company urges all employees to strictly follow storm prevention measures and always be prepared to respond to any situation that may arise from Super Typhoon Yagi.
