The First Two Wind Turbine Towers Rise Above the Waves – Soc Trang 7 Enters a New Phase of Acceleration

24/07/2026

Amid the peak of the rainy season in Vietnam's southwestern waters, where sudden downpours have become an almost daily occurrence and a tropical depression is forecast to bring stronger winds and rougher seas toward the end of July, the Soc Trang 7 Offshore Wind Farm has reached a significant milestone: the successful mechanical completion of its first two wind turbine towers. More than just another construction achievement, this milestone marks the project's successful transition through one of its most technically demanding phases and signals the beginning of an accelerated construction stage.

The completion of these first two turbine towers represents far more than the installation of two massive steel structures. It demonstrates the successful execution of the entire offshore installation process—from component assembly at the port, transportation by specialized installation barges, and heavy-lift operations at sea to the precise alignment of turbine sections under demanding offshore conditions. This achievement lays a solid foundation for optimizing subsequent installation activities, with the project targeting the mechanical completion of its third turbine tower by the end of July.

Following the project's earlier milestone of entering the turbine installation phase with the deployment of specialized installation barges and heavy-lift cranes, offshore activities have continued to gain momentum. To date, three out of twelve scheduled transportation voyages have been completed, ensuring a steady flow of turbine components from the assembly yard to the offshore construction site and supporting the simultaneous installation of multiple turbine locations.

Weather continues to be one of the most critical challenges for offshore construction. Frequent afternoon rain showers have significantly reduced available working windows, while the forecast tropical depression from July 26 is expected to bring stronger winds and higher waves, directly affecting barge positioning, heavy lifting operations, and the precise installation of large turbine components.

Rather than waiting for ideal conditions, the project team has adopted a proactive and flexible construction strategy. Weather and marine forecasts are continuously monitored to maximize every favorable weather window, while materials, equipment, and turbine components are prepared in advance to enable immediate deployment whenever offshore conditions permit. This adaptive approach has enabled the project to maintain steady progress despite increasingly challenging weather conditions.

Alongside turbine installation, electrical infrastructure works are also advancing steadily. The 22kV overhead transmission line has been fully completed, while the 22kV cable installation along the access bridge has been finished and is now entering the cable termination and connection stage, providing a critical foundation for the project's electrical system integration.

Offshore submarine cable installation is also making encouraging progress. Following the successful installation of the first cable section from C2 to Turbine No. 17, cable-laying operations are continuing as planned, with the entire submarine cable installation scheduled for completion in August.

Meanwhile, at the fabrication yard, additional turbine tower sections are being assembled and prepared for upcoming transportation campaigns. The seamless coordination between onshore assembly activities and offshore installation continues to ensure a stable supply of components for the project's next construction milestones.

From the first completed foundations and offshore transportation campaigns to the successful erection of the first two turbine towers, each milestone reflects the determination, expertise, and resilience of the entire project team. With strong momentum across all construction fronts, Soc Trang 7 continues to move confidently toward its ultimate goal of delivering a safe, high-quality, and on-schedule offshore wind farm.
