04/11/2024

Round 7 - the last match of the first leg of the Sigma Champions League 2024 group stage has ended with the separation of the two clubs E1 and Safety as well as witnessing a very close race for a position in the top 4 from the clubs. There is still half a journey left for the clubs to be able to sprint to the finish line with the desired results. The Organizing Committee would like to review the results of the round 7 matches as well as the rankings of the teams after the first leg.

The opening match of Round 7 featured a showdown between Safety and M3, a crucial game that would determine second place in the standings as both teams had equal points. Given the importance of the match, both teams fielded nearly their strongest lineups. Safety took the lead early, gaining control of the game. Although M3 managed to equalize, Safety's sharp attack allowed them to score two more goals, bringing the score to 3-1, giving them a strong advantage at the end of the first half. In the second half, M3 quickly reduced the deficit to 2-3. However, this was the final goal of the match, as neither team could find the net again. A narrow and disappointing loss for M3, as Safety moved up to take second place by the end of the first leg of the SCL 2024 season.

On Field 1, M1 hosted M2 in a match where both clubs faced significant personnel losses and had not shown top form in the tournament. It was an open game, as both teams had little left to fight for this season. With a stronger squad, M1 dominated the game, scoring two goals to secure a safe lead over M2 by halftime. In the second half, both teams played an open and attacking style, creating many chances, and a total of four more goals were scored, two by each side. The final score was a 4-2 victory for M1, helping them maintain their pursuit of a top-four spot in SCL 2024.

In the second round of matches, two other pairings took place: E1 vs. E3 and E2 vs. M&S. On Field 1, E1 was expected to extend their undefeated record against E3. However, football is full of surprises. E1 controlled the first half but struggled to break through E3's focused and determined defense. Surprisingly, E3 struck first with a long-range goal by center-back Hong Dung. Stunned, E1 increased their attack efforts and finally equalized due to a defensive error. The 1-1 tie held through the first half. In the second half, E3 couldn't keep up their concentration and stamina, allowing E1 to score two more goals and extend their unbeaten streak to seven matches. This win firmly cemented E1’s hold on the top spot in this year's standings.

On Field 2, M&S faced E2 in a highly anticipated match between two well-matched teams with talented players. Despite their impressive recent form, M&S disappointed in the first half, conceding two goals and feeling the psychological pressure of a two-goal deficit by halftime. E2 widened the gap with a third goal early in the second half, prompting M&S to fight back with nothing to lose. M&S scored two consecutive goals, bringing the score to 2-3 and creating an intense atmosphere as the game neared its end. In stoppage time, M&S came close to an equalizer several times, but E2’s goalkeeper Van Tien made brilliant saves, securing a valuable three points for E2. E2’s emotional win over direct rivals M&S tightened the top four race, with only one point separating them on the SCL 2024 standings after the first leg.
